De-stress on treetop nets with your tribe!

No one likes to feel stressed, but for many people it’s an unavoidable reality of their busy working lives. Saying that, a smidgen of stress isn’t always a bad thing; according to experts, it can actually motivate you to meet your goals for the day.

But then there’s also bad stress, when you constantly feel under pressure and pushed to the very max. And this type of stress is counter-intuitive, as it can make you feel less driven and less enthusiastic about your work. It can even make you unwell, if it carries on for a long time.

So, as tribe leader, you need to help your tribe to achieve that perfect balance in their roles. No doubt they want to be challenged (as this will help them to develop and flourish), but there’s a line between tasks and responsibilities that are challenging, and those that are downright impossible!

Time to unwind!

You know what will help your tribe to secure that golden balance? If you treat them to regular away days, where they can switch off from work and leave their worries behind in a pile on their desk! So, how does de-stressing in a netted playground suspended 30 feet up in the air sound!?

Yep, you read that right! Go Ape is pleased and proud to unveil a brand new, one-of-a-kind adventure soon to be launched in Black Park! Nets Kingdom is a mammoth connected structure of bounce nets (one filled with giant balls), bridges slides and climbing towers and is fun for all ages!

The Kingdom is encased within 3,000 square metres of hammock-like netting, so it’s safe as tree houses. Speaking of which, there are some of them in Net Kingdom, too!

Nets Kingdom is the perfect spot to kick back with your tribe. To unwind, to switch off, to reconnect with nature. And most importantly, to have some fun!

For the ultimate Go Ape day out, why not swing through the trees before hanging out in them? An award-winning Tree Top Adventure course is the perfect team building and team bonding activity. You’ll take on tunnels, bridges, swings, stirrups and zips. Oh, you’ll also have to clamber up and across nets, so you’ll get in some practice before venturing to the Kingdom!

Between your adventures, you could always back with your tribe in our exclusive Forest Shelter and enjoy some tasty grub, prepared by us. Choose from a simple picnic, or a more hearty forest BBQ (which your tribe may appreciate more after swinging through the trees and working up an appetite).

Black Park is the only Go Ape with Nets Kingdom for the moment, but we’re sure that the activity will be launched in other courses in the future. So don’t feel too disappointed if you aren’t near, anyway, there’s bound to be a local course where you and your tribe can swing through the trees or whizz through the forest floor via a bunch of all-terrain, self-balancing Segways!

Team activities for the workplace!

Call us biased, but when it comes to team building activities, we think that they’re most effective (not to mention most fun) when they take place in the great outdoors.

Why? Well, the outdoors is stimulating and enriching – much more so than the confines of any indoor space. It’s like an endless playground where your tribe can kick back and enjoy some quality time together; leaving the constant whirr of tech behind in order to reconnect with the beautiful, natural world that surrounds us.

(Forgive us for getting all poetical on you, we’re just keen, outdoorsy types!)

Anyway, we welcome company tribes from Monday to Friday here in the forest. Companies visit us to escape the office for a day in the treetops, where they can let their hair down and unleash their inner Tarzans! It’s true: there really is no better place to bond than in the canopy!

Ideas for your office

Of course, there’s no harm in planning some in-office team activities to complement your outdoor efforts! These following activities could be good if you’re short on time, or if you’re in need of a mid-week pick-me-up for your tribe:

Table tennis tournament

Yes, you’ll need a table tennis table for this one. Or, you could always get creative with the tables in the boardroom! Encourage some healthy competition among your tribe by hosting a ping pong tournament with knockout stages and of course, a prize for the winner. Talking from experience, you will work up a sweat, so you might all need to bring your gym gear!

Office Olympics

Turn the office into a stadium for tribe Olympics! Sub a boat for office chairs in the rowing race (if you’ve got the space); print off targets and use elastic bands for arrows; screw up paper and shot-put them into the bin; and launch your paper aeroplane javelins to see who can fly the furthest distance! And don’t forget those medals!

Scavenger hunt

Split your tribe into teams and organise a scavenger hunt, with riddles for clues. Here are a couple of examples we spotted on the web:

In an office it has two bent legs

But isn’t a car

Think of around 10 clues for your tribe – lock up the stationery cupboard and make sure every person hunts for at least one item! Oh, and don’t forget to tell your tribe to replace any supplies they steal from their colleagues’ desks!

Friday feast

Sociable and tasty, food has a way of bringing people together. So, this Friday, dine in style with your tribe. Organise a picnic if it’s nice weather, or a hearty BBQ if you can access the necessary gear. Or, see if your tribe would be up for each bringing in a homemade dish for a lunchtime buffet!

With the days getting shorter and the nights getting darker, it’s easy to fall into a rut and start hibernating for the winter. You may not feel like doing much after driving home in the dark and fighting through the cold to get to your warm and snugly sofa, but trust us, these 6 hobbies will make you even happier than a mug of hot chocolate on an Autumn evening. According to Tesco, you should try these 6 happy hobbies to keep your mood sunny the whole year round:

1) “Bored” games

Not only does it bring the family together and have a warm, nostalgic feel, but it makes a change from normally tech-related past-times such as catching up on telly, playing video games or having your nose buried in your phone. According to Tesco, 46% of mums believe that a board game is a brilliant way to spend quality family time.

2) Weekly catch-ups

What’s better to put a smile on your face than catching up with a good friend. Put some time aside of an evening and give your friend a call. No texts, WhatsApps or Facebook messages, just some old-fashioned gabbing on the phone. Even better option, invite them over for a drink and a chat! Face to face wins every time.

3) Get creative

Whether you have a passion for writing, drawing, photography or even knitting, getting your creative juices flowing is very good for your well-being. It can help keep your brain active, improves your memory strength and release happy endorphins.

4) Winter work out

You may not feel so happy about going to the gym in the cold and dark, but once your exercises are complete you’ll feel like you can tackle the world. Exercise is another hobby that releases endorphins and not only will you feel good whilst exercising, but when you notice your fitness levels increasing and your belt getting looser, it becomes the gift that keeps on giving.

5) Sing-a-long season

It’s simple – just sing like nobody’s listening. Singing on your own can be an instant mood-lifter, however singing with a group is the real winner. 6) Snuggle weather

Saving the best ’til last – a good hug can make everything better. Not only is a hug good for the heart (releasing Oxytocin, making you feel all happy inside), but it is also good for your health by helping to lower your blood pressure. There you have it, if you increase your daily hugs, you’ll be both happy and healthy this Winter!

Could technology be making you tired at work?

We all love technology – it’s made our lives so much easier. Gone are the days of handwritten letters and wrist cramps, now are the days of buffer faces and “texting thumb” (seriously, look it up, it’s a real condition).

According to a recent study by Tesco, these wondrous creations are speeding up our daily tasks, but slowing us down mentally. Take a look at these surprising side-effects from man’s new best friend:


1) Not being able to sleep at night

This is caused by looking at your smart phone before bed. Believe it or not, the blue backlight from our phones has been found to keep people more alert. This is because it represses the hormone melatonin, which we all need for a peaceful night’s sleep.


Read a book before bed, instead of reading your newsfeed. If you really can’t wean yourself off of your smartphone, try using apps such as Twilight or f.lux to reduce the blue light emission from your device.

2) Feeling a bit blue

Social media has been linked to various cases of anxiety and depression and it’s not too hard to see why. Glamorous celebrities and luxury lifestyles set a high living standard. When we see these as unachievable, it makes you feel less happy in your own skin.


Take a break from social media for a week and spend time with your friends and family. You’ll soon find that the best experiences are those you get to witness in person, not those that are reported on social media.

3) Short attention span

Caused, in part, by the multiple platforms designed to entertain us. According to Microsoft, we humans have shorter attention spans than goldfish! Between the umpteen channels on TV, to browsing the internet and scrolling through social media platforms, there is always something to grab our attention, and if something’s boring, the next best thing is just in the palm of our hands. No wonder Twitter limits itself to 140 character tweets!


Be tough with yourself and only allow allocated slots of smartphone time a day. Perhaps just a lunch time binge? You can even download apps that help you to monitor how much time you’re spending on your smartphone throughout the day (Tesco recommends BreakFree). Just be sure to shut off all devices before 10pm to get the best night’s rest.

Our recommendation

Short attention span? Forget about being entertained by endless scrolls of tweets and have a laugh with your Tribe instead. It will be hard to get bored as you and your team take on wobbly crossings, rope ladders, Tarzan swings and epic zip wires.
