Ways to celebrate a company milestone!

Office BBQ Party

In our opinion, any occasion is a cause for celebration! And here at Go Ape, we’ve certainly had a lot of occasions to celebrate recently, what with many of our courses reaching the big 1-0! Oh, and let’€™s not forget that it was Go Ape’€™s 15th birthday a couple of months ago, too.

Our celebrations have included hours of monkeying around in the treetops, topped with excessive amounts of banana cake,€“ which is OK, because we burned off those cals combatting obstacles in the canopy!

Do you have a company milestone coming up? It could be a big birthday, or perhaps you’€™re a few weeks away from reaching a sales target. Maybe you’€™re a smaller company and (after plenty of hard graft) you’€™ve just started turning a profit. Whatever your milestone, you should round-up your tribe and celebrate! Here are eight suggestions for what you can do:

1. Follow in our ape-shaped footsteps by booking a Tree Top Adventure at Go Ape! Take it from us, “ there’€™s nothing quite like celebrating in the canopy!
2. Break open the bubbly in the office this Friday afternoon (don’€™t forget non-alcoholic alternatives for those who drove in or don’€™t drink).
3. Say it with food by putting on a lunchtime feast for your tribe. In this weather, we find that BBQs and picnics go down a treat!
4. If your tribe have helped you to achieve a financial target, share the love with a surprise bonus in their pay packets.
5. Purchase a bunch of tickets for a local, upcoming show or concert you know your tribe will love.
6. Let your tribe have an extra day’s holiday this year, on you.
7. Learn a new skill en-masse with your tribe by booking a class. Ask your tribe what they’d like to do, Master pottery? Learn the samba? Make (and eat) some chocolate?
8. Buy some new equipment for the office for your tribe to enjoy. We have a table tennis here at Banana HQ and it’€™s provided us with endless hours of fun albeit sweaty fun.

When you reach your milestone€“ whether it’€™s a company anniversary or target it’€™s really important to get your tribe together and thank them personally. After all, without them, you wouldn’t have reached that milestone, and together they will help you to reach many more milestones in the future!

How Go Ape Does Team Building On A Budget

Team Development Knot Tie Activity

The Go Ape motto has been the same since day dot: to encourage others to live life adventurously.

From families to friends to work tribes, we want to inspire adventure among the masses – we want to start an adventure revolution!

We know that to make adventure accessible to all, we need to make our adventures affordable for all. That’s why we offer tree-mendous forest adventures for a price that won’t break the bank. Any company, large or small, can enjoy the wonders of the woodland at Go Ape, swinging through the trees en-masse just as Tarzan would.

Our turn!

We’re always going on about how regular team building trips are the key to forming happy, super-motivated tribes (especially when those trips take place in the forest). So, it’s only right that we practice what we preach!

Of course, we don’t hold Go Ape team building trips at Go Ape. While we’ll never get bored of our canopy escapades, we like to mix things up a little. So, can you guess what we did for our last team building trip on a budget?

…Garden party!

If only you could see the looks on our tribe’s faces when we were all handed our invitations. Hosted by our MD, the Go Ape garden party promised to be a day of games, giggles and getting to know one another even better!

And it certainly delivered. Not as au fait with floor-level activities, we started off with a few rounds of rounders (and unearthed competitive streaks in many a member of the Go Ape tribe). That worked up a real sweat, so we got to cool down in the coolest way we could…by taking a dip in the lake! Never experienced wild swimming? We highly recommend it!

As soon as we dried off it was time for lunch and in homage to our Go Ape offering, we were treated to a hearty BBQ. We must admit, we’re always a little envious when tribes get to tuck into a table full of tasty, grilled grub, so we were chuffed that we finally got to indulge!

Fuelled by our mighty feast, the afternoon consisted of even more activities. We went to war with one another on an inflatable gladiator ring and raced on a blow-up bungee run to see who could reach the furthest point before they were catapulted back to the beginning (one of our fave activities of the day, by far).

The more humble activities on offer were large chess and draughts and a range of card games – perfect for later in the afternoon when we were feeling slightly subdued!

The Go Ape garden party was the perfect team day out; a day where we could let our hair down, meet new members of the tribe and ultimately, have lots of fun! Which is what team building should be all about, right?

De-stress on treetop nets with your tribe!

Nets KIngdom Blog
No one likes to feel stressed, but for many people it’s an unavoidable reality of their busy working lives. Saying that, a smidgen of stress isn’t always a bad thing; according to experts, it can actually motivate you to meet your goals for the day.

But then there’s also bad stress, when you constantly feel under pressure and pushed to the very max. And this type of stress is counter-intuitive, as it can make you feel less driven and less enthusiastic about your work. It can even make you unwell, if it carries on for a long time.

So, as tribe leader, you need to help your tribe to achieve that perfect balance in their roles. No doubt they want to be challenged (as this will help them to develop and flourish), but there’s a line between tasks and responsibilities that are challenging, and those that are downright impossible!

Time to unwind!

You know what will help your tribe to secure that golden balance? If you treat them to regular away days, where they can switch off from work and leave their worries behind in a pile on their desk! So, how does de-stressing in a netted playground suspended 30 feet up in the air sound!?

Yep, you read that right! Go Ape is pleased and proud to unveil a brand new, one-of-a-kind adventure soon to be launched in Black Park! Nets Kingdom is a mammoth connected structure of bounce nets (one filled with giant balls), bridges slides and climbing towers and is fun for all ages!

The Kingdom is encased within 3,000 square metres of hammock-like netting, so it’s safe as tree houses. Speaking of which, there are some of them in Net Kingdom, too!

Nets Kingdom is the perfect spot to kick back with your tribe. To unwind, to switch off, to reconnect with nature. And most importantly, to have some fun!

For the ultimate Go Ape day out, why not swing through the trees before hanging out in them? An award-winning Tree Top Adventure course is the perfect team building and team bonding activity. You’ll take on tunnels, bridges, swings, stirrups and zips. Oh, you’ll also have to clamber up and across nets, so you’ll get in some practice before venturing to the Kingdom!

Between your adventures, you could always back with your tribe in our exclusive Forest Shelter and enjoy some tasty grub, prepared by us. Choose from a simple picnic, or a more hearty forest BBQ (which your tribe may appreciate more after swinging through the trees and working up an appetite).

Black Park is the only Go Ape with Nets Kingdom for the moment, but we’re sure that the activity will be launched in other courses in the future. So don’t feel too disappointed if you aren’t near, anyway, there’s bound to be a local course where you and your tribe can swing through the trees or whizz through the forest floor via a bunch of all-terrain, self-balancing Segways!

One Year of Highlights at Go Ape

This year we’ve been busy little monkeys. We’ve worked hard and played even harder. We made sure that team building was at the forefront of our days out, with a healthy dollop of adventure thrown in too. Here are just some of Go Ape’s highlights from the memorable year that was 2016.
Air Space Freestyle Fitness

January– Air Space launches in Wolverhampton

After a successful launch, we left head office on a road trip to test out our new freestyle fitness classes at Air Space.

February – Sharing the love

Every February we go to all 30 of our sites to catch up with the teams and plan for the year ahead. Some face to face time is so beneficial in keeping a strong team.

March – Only the Brave

A 5 mile obstacle course that isn’t for the faint-hearted. We attacked this challenge as a team and came back (sorer) and stronger than ever!

April – Managers Meeting with a difference

Our managers meetings are never all business. We take this time to bond with the whole company. Que raft building and kayaking in the Forest of Dean.

May – Filming the Go Ape tribe video

We were asked to reflect on our time being part of the Go Ape tribe (all captured on camera). Sometimes you need to take a walk down memory lane to remind you how much you love your team.

Go-Ape-Three-Peaks-Yacht-Race-TeamJune – The 3 Peaks Yacht Race

Intense and competitive. Our directors were tasked with 389 miles of sailing, 18 miles of cycling and 72 miles of running up 3 mountain peaks of Britain. A grueling challenge that they took on with all of the teams support.

July – Feedback that warms the heart

We love it when we hear back from our customers about our team days out. Yale’s case study brought a tear to our eye and reaffirmed why team building is so important.

August – A Go Ape wedding

One of our own got married and we were all invited. Spending time with your tribe outside of work is a lovely way to show that you don’t just appreciate one another as colleagues, but also as the awesome individuals they are.

20 mile charity walk Go Ape 2016September – 20 mile charity walk

The whole of Banana HQ put on their out of offices and trekked 20 miles for the Outward Bound Trust. A great opportunity to talk to every member of the team, swap stories they may not know about you, and complain about your chaffing.

October – 4 x 4 off road driving

There was a lot of trust and mutual support as we drove down ditches, over hills and at 45 degree angles through the forest.

November – Nomination Station

We were nominated as the Best Team Building Attraction in the World and we made it to the final four! Watch this space to see if we win before the year is up.

December – Swapping Secret Santa gifts

We’re spreading the Christmas joy and showing our colleagues just how well we know them. Gift swapping is accompanied by a team Christmas luncheon so we can wish each other well over the Christmas period.

What is your plan for 2017 looking like? Have you included team building as part of your schedule? Perhaps it’s time to get out of the office and up into the trees. Request a quote for an adventurous team day out right here.
